Overview

Dave brings over 25 years of tax consulting and compliance experience to HCVT. Dave has served clients in the real estate industry for most of his career. He has a strong knowledge of residential and commercial real estate development from raw land acquisition to infrastructure and building improvements. Dave has extensive experience addressing the tax complexities associated with pass-through entities including partnerships and limited liability companies. He assists and advises clients on income and debt allocations, as well as formation and liquidation issues. Dave also provides tax services to companies operating as real estate investment trusts and has assisted with the restructuring of entities and asset-holding companies to qualify under the real estate investment trust (REIT) rules. He also assists companies with ongoing REIT compliance including income, asset, distribution, and dividend requirements, and also helps in the planning phase of the acquisition and disposition of REIT assets. Dave has significant experience managing tax controversy issues at the federal and state level.

Dave spent his early years in the real estate tax group of EY Kenneth Leventhal. Dave founded Zeiger & Associates in 2005, a specialized CPA firm serving complex and sophisticated real estate industry clients. Dave also has experience in private industry, serving as the vice president of taxation for a national leader in mixed-use development. Dave has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from California State University, East Bay, and a Master of Science in Taxation from Golden Gate University.
