Ryan is an experienced tax professional with over 11 years of public accounting and private industry experience. Ryan specializes in providing tax consulting and compliance services for real estate funds and public and private REITs. He has performed transactional analysis and tax structuring related to the acquisition, restructuring, and disposition of real estate assets in fund and REIT structures. Ryan has extensive partnership taxation experience that includes consulting projects for historic §704(b) capital account maintenance projects and related §704(b) and taxable income allocations, and detailed §743(b) and §734(b) models. In serving REIT clients, Ryan has significant experience performing acquisition due diligence regarding the suitability of an asset for REIT qualification purposes, including a detailed understanding of all relevant REIT qualification and operational issues. Ryan also has experience providing tax consulting and compliance services to private equity entities. He has addressed complex partnership allocations, state apportionment, and tiered structures.
Ryan served as a tax manager in private industry for a registered investment advisor managing private investment funds. He was responsible for the management and review of federal, foreign, and multiple state filings, including investment funds, management companies, foundations, charities, and individual partners. He assisted in the review of joint venture/lower tier partnership agreements and the tax consequences of the economic agreements (tax allocations, distribution preferences, etc.).
Ryan is a cum laude graduate of Cal Poly Pomona and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He earned his Masters of Business Taxation from the University of Southern California. Ryan began his career in public accounting at HCVT and was also with EY and KPMG.
