With over 30 years of experience, John specializes in providing tax planning and consulting services primarily to large corporate taxpayers, high net worth individuals and owner-managed businesses in a variety of industries, including real estate—investors, owners, developers, and the retail, manufacturing, and distribution industry sectors. John’s experience also includes accounting for income taxes under ASC 740. John has advised clients on complex tax issues including buy/sell issues, corporate reorganizations, multi-state tax minimization strategies, tax credit maximization, formulating tax efficient exit strategies for business owners, estate planning and representing clients before federal and state taxing authorities. John has served clients in all phases of the business cycle from emerging, rapid growth and mature organizations. John has extensive experience addressing the tax complexities associated with 1031 exchanges and other like-kind exchange transactions. John’s background is unique as he served as director of tax planning for an apparel manufacturer. This industry experience, coupled with his consulting experience allows John to provide a balanced perspective to his clients.
John began his career at Deloitte. John has served as an adjunct professor in the Master of Taxation program at California State University, Northridge. John is regarded as a thought leader and has been called upon by financial institutions to conduct in-house seminars and provide lectures regarding the impact of tax legislation. John graduated with honors from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and he received a Master of Business Taxation from the University of Southern California.
