Edvin is a senior manager in HCVT’s State and Local Tax practice. He has extensive experience providing a broad range of state tax services including compliance, consulting, and planning to clients in a wide range of industries.
At HCVT, Edvin’s role is heavily focused on multistate consulting, compliance, controversy, and technical research for clients within various industries, including but not limited to, real estate investment, asset management, manufacturing, and technology. In addition to helping clients maintain statutory compliance for various tax types, Edvin also focuses on developing and advising on efficient tax structures and operations within a complex multistate framework that requires a deep understanding of state legislative and administrative processes and their impact on individuals and various entity types including partnerships, corporations, and real estate investment trusts.
As it relates to consultative matters, Edvin has done a considerable amount of work in the area of state residency planning and audit defense, nexus analysis, taxability decision analysis, corporate unitary studies, voluntary disclosure agreements, buy and sell-side due diligence, and restructuring. He has also worked extensively in the area of state tax controversy and has engaged in audit defense, settlement, and appeals spanning various tax matters and across numerous states.
Prior to joining HCVT, Edvin worked in Deloitte and KPMG’s State and Local Tax practice and provided multistate services including consulting, planning, and compliance to clients ranging from middle-market to Fortune 500 entities. Edvin also served as a technical and controversy deputy as a member of Deloitte’s Jurisdictional Technical Leads and KPMG’s State Tax Resource Network, both under Washington National tax, and supported the national offices with respect to various highly complex state and local tax matters.
In addition to direct tax compliance and consulting, Edvin has researched and written about a broad range of technical issues spanning income, property, and transactional taxes. He has also spoken at various technical tax conferences as a subject matter expert; most recently he spoke at the Looking Through the Looking Glass Symposium (on California residency matters) and the North American Real Estate Conference (on multistate tax issues impacting the real estate industry).
Edvin received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting, and a Master’s of Science in Taxation from California State University, Fullerton. In his free time, he teaches Federal Tax Research and Multistate Taxation courses at California State University, Fullerton’s Masters of Science in Taxation program as an adjunct professor. He is certified as a Certified Public Accountant in the state of California.
