"What has surprised me is that I spend a significant amount of time helping the firm grow and I really enjoy this aspect of my career."
“I started my career in public accounting at a Big 4 firm. I was doing well, happy and doing a pretty good job at juggling the competing demands of work and life. I was a member of the firm’s mergers & acquisition practice where I worked on due diligence engagements for large private equity firms engaged in purchasing a variety of businesses, including closely-held entrepreneurial businesses. I enjoyed working with business owners but sometimes felt their interests were, in a word, ignored. Two of my former colleagues had recently joined HCVT to launch their M & A practice. They reached out to me to consider joining the team to build the practice. I was intrigued but knew the environment would need to very different and that I would have the opportunity to work with the client profile I really enjoyed—entrepreneurs. I leaped, and have never looked back. My career progression at HCVT has surprised and fulfilled me in ways I did not expect.
First, as we developed the firm’s M & A practice, we took the view to tailor our services to the needs of entrepreneurs—provide more than just financial due diligence or tax structuring services, but provide guidance and direction to help ensure entrepreneurs are well represented and ultimately, achieve a successful deal. There is nothing more rewarding than to see a deal close and be a part of helping business owners see a meaningful financial return. Second, I have always seen myself as an accountant, a numbers guy, not a business developer. What has surprised me is that I spend a significant amount of time helping the firm grow and I really enjoy this aspect of my career. Lastly, it is the work environment at HCVT that is what is important. We work hard, and as a partner, I strive to support and enhance our environment by being a good role model in terms of work life balance. We provide phenomenal training, have a varied and interesting client base, a genuine community and taken altogether; it is an unparalleled experience to be part of the HCVT team.”
