After graduating from UCLA Jim started working at KPMG in the tax department and became a CPA. Jim left KPMG in June of 1984 and joined a large local firm as a Tax Manager. In 1989 he became a partner in that firm. In December 1991, Jim and two other partners left that local firm and started Holthouse Carlin & Van Trigt LLP (HCVT), along with five other support staff.
Jim’s area of expertise is the income taxation of corporations, partnerships, individuals and estates and trusts. His practice is comprised of primarily closely held businesses, high net worth individuals, professional service organizations, technology and software development companies as well as companies providing services in the entertainment and multimedia arenas.
Jim earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of California at Los Angeles and a master’s degree in business taxation at the University of Southern California. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and California Society of Certified Public Accountants and has had articles published in and/or been quoted on tax and financial matters by the Los Angeles Times, Tax Notes and the Los Angeles Business Journal.
